Spring is here and it’s such a welcome relief. We’ve been so busy this last year with preparing to become parents, learning to manage a business and most recently moving to a new home. We are full on in love with the new place. Some time, I’ll have to share more about it.
For today, I wanted to share a humorous story from the weekend that also involves a delicious recipe.
Yesterday, we were galavanting about the city in search of LED flood lights for the kitchen and stopped into Meijer to check out their pricing. While we were there I saw some rhubarb and I just couldn’t resist it’s tangy, ruby stalks. I had recently seen a recipe for a rhubarb cake and with a dear friend’s upcoming housewarming the next day it was decidedly serendipitous! Rhubarb cake would be happening.
We were in line at the self-checkout when a middle-aged woman waiting immediately in front of us turned around and said, “Well, it’s not every day you see a young man buying rhubarb. What are you going to do with it?”
I told her about the cake, which piqued her interest so I described the method of making it and even a bit about the recommended way to present it. She seemed absolutely tickled and said something about how she’d love to find that recipe. As she walked toward her now open checkout station I called out, “Bon Appetit!” She smiled and walked on. Quickly, I realized she didn’t know I was talking about the magazine and thought I was just wishing her a good culinary experience. Chad got a really good laugh at that.
The cake was well received at the housewarming and I’ll most certainly be making it again. I just hope I can run into that lady at Meijer again.
